Why cant I get Link TV on cable?

The FCC requires that satellite carriers like DIRECTV and DISH Network reserve at least 4% of their capacity (approximately 10-12 channels) for non-commercial networks such as Link TV. Such FCC requirements do not apply to cable television, whose contracts are controlled by local governments and typically there is only one or two 'public access' channels in each community. As a result, obtaining nationwide distribution on cable is more difficult and very expensive. This is a function of media consolidation, where 90% of the top 50 cable channels are owned by five companies.

In the coming years we hope to obtain cable distribution for Link TV. We encourage you to contact your local cable operator and express your interest. If the cable companies know their customers are searching for this unique network, they may be more inclined to offer Link TV a channel.

In the meantime, we are available exclusively on DIRECTV (ch. 375) and The DISH Network (ch. 9410) as part of their basic programming packages. If you are interested in acquiring a dish, look in the yellow pages for a local installer or call the companies directly:

DIRECTV: 800-347-3288
DISH: 800-333-3474

Can I watch Link TV on the Internet?

We offer a selection of Link TV's original programming via streaming on our website www.linktv.org. These include the daily Mosaic: World News From The Middle East, and specials like The Active Opposition and the Chat the Planet series. To watch these programs click here.

We are not able to stream Link TV's documentaries and films because most filmmakers are not ready to sell us the international streaming rights.

Why did you change your name?

For several years the network was called WorldLink TV. However, our call letters on DIRECTV and DISH Network have always been "LINK" and in a national survey a significant number of viewers thought we were called Link TV. There was also some confusion with other companies using the name Worldlink. To avoid confusion and to emphasize Link TV's unique role connecting Americans to the World, we shortened the name to Link TV.

There is no change in our programming focus: Link TV continues to bring you the best international news, documentaries, foreign films and World Music. We are also expanding our coverage of domestic issues important to every American. And we will continue to experiment with participatory programs linking our viewers to global hot spots and providing opportunities to take action on the issues presented on Link TV.
