A thoughtful look at Pakistans founder, Mohammed Ali Jinnah, a man who has long been considered only in the shadow of Mahatma Gandhi. Through archival footage and interviews, the documentary offers a more balanced portrait of Jinnah and of the division of British India into two separate sovereign states. Jinnah, it argues, was not a hard-line Muslim separatist, but an agnostic politician and lawyer who preferred tactics and legality to the populism of Gandhi. Jinnah is portrayed as having been opposed to dividing the sub-continent until he realized that Gandhi's dream for an India united in independence, with Hindu and Muslim living in harmony, could not be achieved. Produced by Australian Channel 4 to mark the 50th anniversary of the creation of the states of India and Pakistan. For more information on Mohammed Ali Jinnah, click here.
