WorldLink TV presents a call-in show featuring a live link between delegates attending the World Social Forum in Porto Alegre and guests at the WorldLink studios in San Francisco. We hear the voices of sweatshop workers from around the world, anti-globalization protesters, and questions from WorldLink viewers. Guests and speakers tell us what's behind the label by discussing such issues as sweatshops and the global economy, globalizations impact on the poor and women, child labor; and inform us on how to be a sweatshop-aware consumer. Joining host Nicole Sawaya at the WorldLink studios in San Francisco are Katie Quan, a lecturer on labor relations at UC Berkeley and former activist for UNITE, a garment industry union; and Chie Abad, a former sweatshop worker in Saipan and current activist for Global Exchange, a human rights organization. Appearing from Porto Alegre are Martha Ojeda who spent 20 years working in Mexican maquilas near the U.S. border; and Meena Menon, currently Vice President of the Mill Workers Action Committee, one of Indias most active textile workers unions. For more information, and to help eliminate sweatshops, please contact the Behind the Label organization.
