TV MEDIA IN IRAN

Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB 2) is a state run satellite channel originating from Tehran, Iran. Programming is a mix of Iranian films, documentaries, current affairs, religious and educational programs. News programs are presented in Farsi or English. The newscasts include national and international stories, MidEast regional highlights and business reports focusing on the Gulf States and the petroleum industry.

Al-Alam is the Iranian satellite TV station started shortly after the Iraq war. The 24-hour broadcast in Arabic is aimed at the new Iraq, which has a 65% Shi'ite population. The Arabic news programs have an English language news crawl running along the bottom of the screen. The production quality of the network has improved quickly to match some of the best broadcasters in the Middle East, and is currently competing with Al Jazeera and Al Arabia for a wide audience, especially the Shi'ite population in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and the Gulf States. Al Alam is managed by IRIB.
