Islamic Republic
of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB 2) is a state run satellite channel
originating from Tehran, Iran. Programming is a mix of
Iranian films, documentaries, current affairs, religious and educational
programs. News programs are presented in Farsi or English. The newscasts
include national and international stories, MidEast regional highlights
and business reports focusing on the Gulf States and the petroleum
industry.

Al-Alam
is the Iranian satellite TV station started shortly after the Iraq
war. The 24-hour broadcast in Arabic is aimed at the new Iraq, w hich
has a 65% Shi'ite population. The Arabic news programs have an English
language news crawl running along the bottom of the screen. The production
quality of the network has improved quickly to match some of the best
broadcasters in the Middle East, and is currently competing with Al
Jazeera and Al Arabia for a wide audience, especially the Shi'ite
population in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and the Gulf States. Al Alam is
managed by IRIB. |
