TV MEDIA IN YEMEN

Yemen TV

The government-owned Yemen Satellite Channel includes programs from Yemen's two terrestrial channels. Most of their programs are in Arabic, but include news broadcast in English. Yemen TV also presents dramas, documentaries, religious shows and a variety of public announcements, especially about health.

This pan-Arab channel focuses on reaching the Yemeni communities in Yemen, the Middle East and the rest of the world. The satellite programming, seen throughout the Middle East, parts of Europe, and in North America, is dedicated to showing programs that help Yemeni immigrants abroad to stay in touch with the heritage and culture of their homeland.

Between 1976 and 1990, television broadcasting in northern Yemen was the responsibility of the Yemeni Public Corporation for Radio and Television. A similar organization, the Radio and Television Authority, was established in the south in 1988. With the unification of Yemen, these were merged in 1990 to form the Public Corporation for Radio and Television, which operates under the wing of the Yemen Ministry of Information.
