Honor Betrayed
More Info and Broadcast Times An investigation into the pressures put on the American military by the Iraq War, an insufficient Pentagon budget, and the looming issue of a draft. The film weaves together commentary by several of America's most respected military experts with real life personal narratives from the veterans, widows, and members of the military communities that are most directly affected by the Bush Administration's current foreign policy.

Hijacking Catastrophe
More Info and Broadcast Times This film contends that a group of Bush Administration insiders used the trauma of the 9/11 terror attacks to transform American foreign policy and shows how the plan was sold to the American public. The documentary places the Bush Administration's justifications for war in Iraq within the larger context of a two-decade struggle by neoconservatives to dramatically increase military spending in the wake of the Cold War, and to expand American power globally by means of military force.

Troubled Waters: The Dilemma of Dams
More Info and Broadcast Times Personal, passionate and controversial, Troubled Waters looks at the dilemma of dams and the cultural, economic, environmental and spiritual arguments for and against their continued existence. It raises the complicated question of how much economic value we should extract from our rivers in exchange for damaging an eco-system and the wild beauty of free-flowing streams.

New Music Video Blocks
In the coming weeks, we're rolling out six new video block of vibrant World Music. We begin with #171 and #172, which feature artists such asthe Warsaw Village Band (pictured), whose videos you'll find only on Link TV. Below are some liner notes chock full of background information researched by Michal Shapiro, our resident World Music maven. If you have any questions or comments about these music blocks or other World Music artists write Michal at [email protected].
Music Block 171:"Folk Music" Playlist and Broadcast Times Traditions of any kind are easily endangered by the encroachment of modern life, so thank goodness there are always musicians around who can appreciate and preserve the music they love. Of course sometimes their efforts include an eclectic or modern touch, and sometimes it's not their own traditions that they fall in love with! Here are a wide variety of takesSevarah Nazarhan's Mogulchai Navo is a classic Uzbeki court song, with beautiful and precise vocal embellishments. The Warsaw Village Band have gone into the villages of Poland, where they have learned the music from the old players there and perform it with new, youthful energy and a touch of punk. Armenia's Nune really "pops up" three old folk songs, but eventually takes us back to the roots. In Canada, Les Charboniers de L'Enfer inject their dynamic a capella folk renditions with modern harmoniesand Night Losers combines Romanian fiddle and cymbalom lines with American Blues for a truly odd hybrid.
Music Block 172: "Top of the Pops" Playlist and Broadcast Times International pop is wide and varied. Sometimes a hit is so irresistible that is spreads to other countries. In this sequence, Khaled's major hit "Aisha" is sung by Outlandish, a multicultural group from Denmark. Then one of Colombia's most successful groups, Aterciopelados (The Velvet Ones) deliver a song from their groundbreaking "Gozo Poderoso" a CD that established them as a formidable pop band in any realm. While not strictly pop,Madredeus has established a large and devoted following that laps up the seductively sweet and sophisticated sounds they create, most of it as settings for the jewel like voice of Teresa Salgueiro. For pure Arabic fluff, check out Hisham Abbas' Indian extravaganza, "Nari Nari." It may be kitschbut it's one hell of a catchy tune! Veering back to the Western hemisphere we've got one from Caf Tacuba, Mexico's most versatile and uncompromising band, this time in a lovely outing that shows that they can write beautiful love songs with the best. Next, Brazil's Otto joins forces with Bebel Gilberto, the queen of ambient samba in an electronica-laden tribute to the beach.

Video Premiere
Artist: Wazimbo Song: "Nwalhulwana" Country: Mozambique Wazimbo Site
This is not by any means a new songin fact it was first released in 1988. The band Orchestra Marrabenta Star de Mocambique (Mozambique) was one of the best known bands in the country, due to its favor with the ruling party, and Radio Mocambique. The band recorded in Zimbabwe, laying down many dance tracks in the Marrabenta style, but between sessions, Wazimbo picked up a guitar and started to sing. The tapes were still running, but no one realized the song had even been captured until the mixing sessions in London. That was very lucky for us, and for everyone else who has ever been stopped in their tracks by the sheer beauty of this song, which likens a women to a night bird that flies after dark from bar to bar.
To own the music of Wazimbo, visit the Link TV Music Store.
Premiere: Monday, 9/27 at 7:55 PM ET (4:55 PM PT)
Repeat times are:
Tuesday, 9/28 at 1:55 AM ET (10:55 PM PT) Tuesday, 9/28 at 7:55 AM ET (4:55 AM PT) Tuesday, 9/28 at 1:55 PM ET (10:55 AM PT)
Remember that you can own much of the music featured on our music blocks by visiting our online music store. We have either CDs or 99 cent song downloads available for many of the artists on our 43 playlists. Check them out

Best Viewer Comments Of The Week (Keep them coming. Next week it could be yours!)
"Just a general feedback. I was not aware of Link TV until two days ago. I am not sure if my local Direct TV was carrying your channel. Very fresh. I did not watch fully eny single show but overall your programming looks very good. The tempo within the shows is more relaxed than what one may see on TV these days and I welcome this. The topics you cover seem to be non-existent on major networks. I will have to watch some more. I am a TV professional in Los Angeles (not that this gives me any additional credibility). Keep up the good work. Alternative coverage of the presidential elections." Sent: 9/17/2004
"...Last night I was lamenting our lack of truly free press and was despairing for our democracy while flipping through the channels in an attempt to find something interesting...and then I can across Link TV. It was facinating to see real news from the Middle East and to hear the German perspective on the U.N. Security Council. I'm going ! to tell everyone I know about it and contribute!. While I really appreciate the international news and will continue to watch it, I would also love to hear a little U.S. news from a non-conservative perspective. I'm not taking about stories of Laci Peterson or how CBS screwed up. I want to hear about where the U.S. government got the false intel about Iraq or about how and why the conservatives are trying to turn the clock back on reproductive rights among other things...oh yeah, and what's going on with our envirnoment...Yes, the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer is good but we need more news that doesn't cowtow to right wing ideologues. Sorry for the long winded e-mail...guess it is my bottled up frustration at the media. Thanks for being on the air and keep up the good work!" Sent: 9/24/2004
