Video of the Week

Artist: Charanga Cakewalk
Song: "La Negra Celina"

Country: U.S.

What happens when a Mexican American is reared on traditional Latino music, progressive rock and cutting edge electronica? and plays guitar with the likes of John Mellencamp, Paul Simon and Patty Griffin? The side man in question is Michael Ramos, and Charanga Cakewalk is his debut effort, recording out of his studio, the Cumbia Lounge, where the video was also filmed. "La Negra Celina" is indeed classic Colombian cumbia, with its characteristicly irresistible dance groove. But the mix is a horse of different colorfull of humor and contemporary lounge-sensibility and just skirting the edge of kitsch. The video follows suit, and watching the statuesque dancer shimmy and shake to the music is a delicious indulgence that we can all enjoy.

To own the music of Charanga Cakewalk, visit the Link TV Music Store.
