Who Speaks For Islam?
More
Information and Broadcast Times A Link TV original production that
explores Islam in an age when Muslim extremists are laying claim to the
religion. Veteran NPR and PBS journalist, Ray Suarez, hosts a provocative
roundtable discussion with American Muslim scholars and, via satellite, Mike
Scheuer, author of Imperial Hubris and a former CIA expert who has
followed fundamentalist Islamic movements for a decade. The program gives
Americans the opportunity to hear rarely-heard Muslim voices, including Shaykh
Muhammad Tantawi, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar University in Cairo, the first
prominent Shaykh to speak out against Bin Laden after the 9/11 attacks.
Video pieces from the Middle East are interwoven throughout the program to give
viewers a political and cultural context.

In Focus: The Joy of Learning
More
Information and Broadcast Times A Deutsche Welle special report on an
innovative educational technique being tested at the Carl Orff primary school
near Munich, where happily blindfolded children wander around in the park
running their hands over the trees. Cognitive scientist Manfred Spitzer from the
University of Ulm, who developed the program, has instructed the teachers there
that if they want to make learning stick, the children must experience it with
all their senses.

Video of the Week
Artist: Ze Manel Song: "Afrika Unite" Country: Guinea-Bissau
Ze Manel Fortes has been a political musician from the get-go. When Guinea-Bissao gained its independence from Portugal, the country fell prey to massive corruption. Ze Manel had formed its most popular band, "Super Mama Djombo" and he fearlessly decried the situation. So much so that the government paid for a scholarship to get him out of the country. Ending up in the USA, he has continued to perform songs that are critical of the Guinea-Bissao government and African governments in general. This video which documents Ze Manel's return to his homeland after an exile of twenty years, was shot on location in Portugal and Guinea-Bissao and finished in the USA.

January 11, 2005 Thank you so much for opening our eyes to the world. My husband and I are addicted to your channel! We find it very informative and it has helped us think "outside of the box". It really made us think about our world in general and just about everyday things that we would not have normally thought about. You are doing an AWESOME job, we LOVE the documentaries!
